National Veterans Outreach Program

The American GI Forum National Veterans Outreach Program, Inc. (NVOP) currently serves veterans with employment and training services in the four general metropolitan areas of San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and El Paso, Texas. Additionally, the housing services for the elderly are available in San Antonio at three different apartment complexes. Job opportunities for the disabled and weatherization services for low income residents are provided in San Antonio and the surrounding 12 counties designated the “Alamo Area”. Veterans Employment Services - The Texas Veterans Outreach Program targets recently discharged veterans, veterans with a physical or psychological disability that creates a barrier to employment, and homeless veterans, and veterans that are ex-offenders now trying to regain a role in society. Veterans Service Center – The flagship of the organization is the Veterans Service Center (VSC) located in San Antonio where a “continuum of care” is available to veterans in need, with several optional programs including the Veterans Integration Program, the Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program, and the Social Security HOPE program. Additional ancillary services can be provided through the NVOP’s Basic Skills Upgrade learning lab, Clothing Closet and the NVOP Food Pantry. Assistance can be provided as a single service or in combination of services as dictated by the individuals case management plan. Homeless Veterans – The American GI Forum Residential Center for Homeless Veterans with 80 transitional beds and 30 single room apartments is a facility dedicated to the needs of America’s warriors who now live on the streets. Disabled Veterans – One option for the disabled veterans is employment through the organization’s sheltered workshop facility called Veterans Enterprises of Texas (VETS) that employs a minimum of 75% disabled individuals. Housing for the Elderly – Three apartment complexes providing 170 affordable apartments for the independent living of senior citizens. The Villa Alegre, Casa De Amistad, and Casa De Esperanza are subsidized projects that provide affordable apartments for seniors on low fixed incomes. Field Offices Dallas1555 W.
